Proclamation Day

On Tuesday March 15th 2016, the whole school, as well as members of the community, celebrated the centenary of the 1916 Rising. Over the past number of weeks out students have been learning about the events that lead up to the Easter Rising, the Easter Rising itself  and the aftermath of the Rising. To celebrate the 100 years since this important event in Irish history we held a whole school assembly in the nearby post office (in recgnition of the importance of the GPO in the 1916 rising). We recalled the events of the Rising and the people and parties involved in the Rising and in particular we remembered the seven signatories of the proclamation. We read an extract from the proclamation and raised a flag on the school grounds. Afterwards, light refreshments and discussion were the order of the day back in the school building.
